Paris Fashion Week: Dries Van Noten Fall 2011

dries van noten's fall 2011 collection was all about  regal embellishment and understated luxury. the show opened with embroidered jackets and moved on to more relaxed looks. once again billowing trousers made their appearance along with zipper-accented, tapered pants. chunky knits softened the tailored lines of the collection and fur unexpectedly popped up on collars and lapels throughout.  white, creme, navy and camel blended well for a neutral color palette and chic approach to fall.

Paris Fashion Week: Yves St. Laurent Fall 2011

stefano pilati seemed to take ysl's fall 2011 collection down the safe route with 25 looks, most of them being suiting. a few looks featured over-sized boxy outerwear while the over-all silhouette of the collection was very slim and tailored. the mostly grey, navy and black collection was broken up with punches of mustards and rich greens.

Paris Fashion Week: Lanvin Fall 2011

lanvin fall 2011 took on a classic inspiration with a collection full of suiting and bow ties yet all done with a the lanvin twist of texture. silks, velvet and wools were all paired together to give this collection life. lanvin's lucas ossendrijver also took layering to another level placing turtlenecks underneath button ups and again underneath crew necks and jackets. trousers either took the form of a tapered fit or billowy fit reminiscent of oxford bags. modern linear lines took the collection into the contemporary while slanted stetson hats brought a bit in a bit of the vintage. the collection was filled with beautiful muted tones in greens, beiges, purples and burgundy. all-in-all, stunning.

Paris Fashion Week: Maison Martin Margiela Fall 2011

maison martin margiela's fall 2011 collection let outwear take the front seat. as seen with the label's selection of model's the fall collection is all about the real man. thick sweaters and relaxed bottoms ranging from trousers to cargo pants gave the collection an understated feel. beautiful coats in wools and suede were the focal point as double-breasted car coats and pea coats in neutrals walked the runway. margiela fall 2011 does offer suiting options that lean toward the casual side looking better as layering pieces. rustic but well-groomed seems to be what the label is putting out there for next fall.

Paris Fashion Week: Dior Homme Fall 2011

kris van assche has always taken dior homme to the most sensible edges of minimalism, always keeping in mind silhouette. dior homme's fall 2011 collection maintained it's history of slim-fitting suiting while mixing in the option of interchangeability. billowing shapes also reemerged in the form of loose, zoot-like pants and flowing outerwear. accenting the clean lines of some looks were unfinished, raw necklines and edges. the mostly monochromatic color palette was given life with punches of primary red and wide brim hats added a bit of mystery necessary for any dior homme collection.

Gitman Brothers x Opening Ceremony Leopard Print Shirt

we're sort of loving this leopard print button down that opening ceremony did in collaboration with gitman brothers. the print is pretty subtle considering it's leopard. throw a sweater or a cardigan over it and it'll add a lot of fun to a normally boring outfit without being too loud.

Milan Fashion Week: Pringle of Scotland Fall 2011

a definite divergence from what we've seen before pringle of scotland's fall 2011 collection is one of our favorites. beautiful, chunky sweaters and emphasized turtlenecks were layered under formidable leather parkas and car coasts. leather cargo pants and other leather accented pieces brought pringle to a rougher and edgier arena and we love it. the fox lined coat is gorgeous and we're obsessed with the double-layered leather coat from look # 8.

Milan Fashion Week: Missioni Fall 2011

the missoni family layered their models in stunning knits and wide-brimmed bucket hats. missoni's fall 2011 collection featured knit coats and jackets with a western touch. navajo inspired patterns along with marled sweaters added some diversity to the neutral color story along with great autumn tones in oranges and greens. relaxed wool pants and desert boots made of the bottom half of most looks. simple, casual and warm is what the missoni man wants for next fall.

Milan Fashion Week: Gucci Fall 2011

gucci's fall 2011 collection went above and beyond with texture being it's main focus. fur, leather, wools and super lux skins all made an appearance. slim suits featured slightly flared pants for a touch of the 70s trend. coats and jackets of all proportion came in heavy furs and suedes while blazers in ostrich and alligator took the fall collection to an extra lavish level. the oversized bags were complimented with a sleek man clutch in some looks. gucci kept the color palette modest with browns, greys and navy.

Milan Fashion Week: Albino Deuxieme Fall 2011

italian label, albino deuxieme's fall collection was all about mohair and wool blends adding some soothing textures to it's dark and neutral color palette. mohair crewnecks and sweaters were interesting layering pieces. relaxed bottoms fit tucked into unbuckled boots were a rough contrast to slim-fit, printed button ups. we're in love with the mohair triangle scarfs.

Milan Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs Fall 2011

marc jacobs fall 2011 tackles casual looks with a bit of 70s and military inspiration. fur collared car coats are in line with jacob's vintage aesthetic and a neon blue parka adds some color. printed pieces add youth and tapered pants give a bit of structure to the comfortable collection while over-sized duffles retain the lux.

Milan Fashion Week: Gianfranco Ferre Fall 2011

gianfranco ferre approached the fall 2011 with a classic and masculine attitude. patterned suiting offered a sophisticated option to solid suits while heavy, wool with linear silhouettes  provide a modern pairing for the slimmer cuts of the suiting. we love the addition of the rich burgundy and green looks as well.

Milan Fashion Week: Prada Fall 2011

miuccia prada's fascination with retro continues on into her men's fall 2011 collection, a throw back to the 70s: knee high socks, the track suit and glittering fabrics. squarely-cut tops added a boxiness to the proportions of the collection. with an over-all dark color story, miuccia allowed geometric patterns do all the talking.

Milan Fashion Week: Bottega Veneta Fall 2011

bottega veneta never disappoints us. the fall 2011 collection was full of suiting with a young and comfortable delivery. tweeds, wools and velvets gave each look a personality and relaxed, tapered pants lead down sleek motorcycle boots. an overall neutral and dark palette was broken up with with bright primaries and no bottega collection would be complete without leather in all forms: crumpled leather pants, jackets and blazers.

STREETSTYLE: The Fisherman

we've always been fans of anything nautical but it seems that lately its all be about the cleaner, stripier image. we love this rough and tumble fisherman look. the cable knit sweater and salty riding boots paired with darker denim and a wool waist coat tie in a workwear look with a nautical edge---but it could just be the beard...

SHOP: Universal Works Fell Jacket

this waxed cotton parka from english retailer oi polloi is a great addition to anyone's closet especially with all this wet weather we've been having in new york. the simple design and color block is very much on trend with the revival of the 60s & 70s. for those of you who appreciate more of a military fit there is an internal drawstring at the waist but we love the a-line nature of the coat with a pair of slim jeans and lace-up boots.

Milan Fashion Week: Z Zegna Fall 2011

z zegna's mainly monochromatic fall 2010 collection featured lots of grey and black only to be broken up light camel looks. double-breasted suit jackets in beautiful wools are cut slightly boxer than usually giving the collection the italian sophistication zegna is known for. over-sized parkas balanced cropped jackets and slim-cut blazers. the collection is filled with great separates that can easily be mixed and matched. large plaids make an appearance once again this season in all forms, coats, blazers and bottoms. this collection was made for the man who dresses effortlessly but always looks dapper.

Milan Fashion Week: Alexander McQueen Fall 2011

sarah burton's second men's collections continue on with mcqueen's militaristic imagination. high, structured collared  waist coats are reminiscent of soviet officers while a red, white, navy and black palette add a regal strength to the collection. burton included signature prints on silken pieces. tailored suits bring a bit of english sartorial-ism to a heavily coated collection. asymmetrical cuts and leather accents in the finishing looks add a touch of modernism.

Milan Fashion Week: Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2011

salvatore ferragamo's fall 2011 collection plays with rich, luxurious color stories all the while nodding to the 70s. the collection starts off with deep, spruce blues and hunter greens and finds its way into coppers and warm brown tones and on to cremes and beiges. the incredible outerwear took inspiration from the military as beautifully tailored pea coats and jackets with double-breasted pockets made their way down the runway. pieces in lux leathers, suedes and wools added textured layers to the collection. the 70s trend popped up in fur lined coats and silk scarves while a western flare appeared in wide brimmed hats and simple, rounded chelsea boots.

Pitti Uomo: Trussardi 1911 Fall 2011

trussardi 1911's milan vukmirovic sent a leather clad fall collection down the runway at pitti uomo celebrating the label's 100th anniversary. with every piece being made from leather (even the v-neck tees) in a mostly black palette, vukmirovic took this fall's collection to a modern place while retaining the brand's signature luxury look. it's definitely a change from the loud prints and colors of past seasons. the monochromatic looks we're broken up in the end by accented camel pieces and barely-there prints. slim leather and suede trousers made up a majority of the bottoms while medium-size leather weekend bags and ankle boots completed the label's looks. we love the subtle camo prints on a few of the pieces. there's definitely a little 70s inspiration seen in the shearling suede coats but it still remains contemporary, i.e. the black leather poncho in look 6.

Milan Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011

outerwear stole the fall burberry prorsum show as christopher bailey sent out an enticing variety of coats for which the show was properly titled "Burberry Weather Boys-- a coat for all seasons". buffalo plaids in primary colors kicked off the show while dusty springfield's "you don't have to say you love me" helped tease out the the 60s inspiration. as the show went on, coats and more coats appeared in wools, furs, twills and nylon, each unique in silhouette and slightly daring in color compared to bailey's last fall collection. tangerine, bright blues and reds added a visual pop while icy colors, creams and soft blues added a wintery feel. tailored pants with pleated fronts and tapering legs allowed the outwear to be the center of attention. black creepers made up a majority of the footwear while simple, slim bags in alligator, canvas and fur were subtle but super lux accessories

SHOP: Maegpai Jackets

it's no surprise that we're featuring another northern european label (we love what they do up there). these incredible jackets are produced by dutch label, maegpai. the majority of the jackets are created from jacquards, that beautifully intricate fabric more so seen on upholstery rather than in fashion. the label was started in 2006 by cees koole offering men a more eccentric and regal way of dressing. we're dying over the cream jacquard jacket above. chcck out more styles after the jump and head to maegpai's website to find out more the jackets can range from about $650 dollars up and are made upon request just for you.
